The never ending chat thread, chat about anything That your up too

so I went over to Virginia Beach today to Home Depot to retrieve the back shower wall that they screwed up........................

First let me say Virginia Beach is ridiculously large. It covers more square miles then I think any other town I've ever been in. You keep driving & driving & you're still in Virgina Beach.

My GPS took me through an area known as Oceana. I didn't know the USN has an Air Base in Oceana. I guess that's where they keep thier F18's when they're carrier is docked at Naval Staion Norfolk.

So I'm tooling along Oceana Blvd. with a high row of evergreens on my right. Apparently these were sheltering the airfield on the other side. Which I didn't know was there. All of a sudden I hear this tremendously LOUD ROAR coming from my right as 2 F18's coming screaming overhead just above the treeline. Now I guess if you live there this is a daily occurance. I don't live there.

It freaked me right the hell out. These two jets were like 50 feet overhead. Very cool!

Very startling.

I had to pull over to check my pants. Had to make sure I didn't leave a deposit.
:D
More importantly where did you have your Bday meal so where did you go to eat?

HANG ON LARRY…

Obviously never drove past Calverton or did much boating in Peconic Bay when Grumman was in action...

As far as Peconic fishing is concerned - no - either side of it (Sound/Atlantic) - but the Bay - no. I've witnessed Grumman in action out of the Atlantic but not 50 to 100 feet overhead.

Spent most of my time in western Suffoilk except to go to the farm stands &/or wineries in the Fall.

Talked to two of my neighbors today (I never talk to my neighbors) I asked the one to the East of me about using his Machine to help me clear some trees/stumps outta my driveway Hes happy to help when Im ready

Second one is new Hes across the street from me seems someone there likes to park their car right across from my driveway (making it a pain in the ass to back out) went over and talked to him really nice guy and we got along good and hes gonna take care of the issue with me being blocked in

Today was a good day

You haven't lived until a Desk Jockey on this Friday afternoon pleasure sortie to keep up his flying time, simulates multiple strafing runs on you and your buddy scoter hunting in Orient harbor. Passed so low that on his final pass we drew beads on him and we could seem him laughing...

No pants soiled, we were laughing too...

Got to witness an F14 doing maneuvers about 20 miles off of Montauk tuna fishing..........................

He was climbing straight up until he simply appeared as a dot in the sky then came straight down in some sort of power dive & then pulled up about 30 feet over the water sucking up ocean water behind him & then straight back up & repeated the maneuver. This went on for about 20 minutes. He was probably about 1/4 mile from us.

The difference I experienced yesterday in VA Beach was I had no idea there was even an airfield running next to the road I was on. Just trees. All of a sudden there's two jets screaming just over my head in full throttle take off mode.

I had a Thunderbird do that right over my head in my garden in my backyard.

Sorting through pictures from yesterday morning. I got to climb up the lighthouse tower and go out on the catwalk outside of the lantern room.

While I was up there snapping photos I realized a HUGE quartz boulder, we're talking "Short School Bus" size, had been ripped off a long quartz vein, moved 10 yards and spun 90° during the January storms. NEVER under estimate the power of the ocean!!

Photo of the boulder and it's normal position when turned 90° clockwise!!
