The Onancock Chronicles the Eastern shore

We contacted an agent today, might be heading down Thursday to check out a few homes in above mentioned area..

would like to have et up - I'm headed to Richmond on Thursday - probably returning Sunday..

I'll try to do a drive by before then & let you know what I think...

Ok that would be cool,thanks..

Macks - checked out the two houses you sent me the addresses to - nice neighborhood - boating neighborhood. The one at 20335 looked to be a bit newer than the other with a nice 2 car garage. I think the price is a but high though. But then what do I know? Not a Realtor.

Actually ended up in a third house when I stopped to ask a couple of neighbors who were sitting in a pontoon boat celebrating St. Pat's Day (y=they offer me Jameson & beer - I declined) if there was ever an issue with flooding. Whole neighborhood being on the water and all.

They've been there 5 years (from NJ) & no issues. Not in a flood plain & no flood insurance required. Said most of the people in the development where northerners (PA/NJ/NY/CT). The wife took me over to show me a house they own (they own 4 of them there) that will be going on the market next week. While it probably had the best location for water views (it was on a point with water visible from nearly every room in the house) didn't think it was what you'd be looking for.

Easy out to the Chesapeake.

Sent you a PM with my phone #. More to mention but don't want to go into it here.

Macks - here's a steal @ $199,900.

6 bedrooms - 2300 + square feet - detached two car garage - plenty room for the family comes to visit. Literally a 3 minute walk to the Marina where you can keep your boat at a very reasonable per foot cost vs. NY - or the Town boat Ramp. Ad says that's free. Their wrong. You by a Town sticker for the year @$25 & that's it.

Says it needs a little work. Looks pretty good to me.

The town marina is the warf right,I read the waiting list is a mile long or is there another marina ?

Marina I'm mentioning is at the wharf. Don't know about the wait list. When I first moved here I put my name on it in anticipation of buying a boat. I got a call back in 3 weeks saying there was a spot open.

I believe it varies depending on when you apply. There is also rather big expansion plan in the works to increase the number of slips. They will be starting on that next year. I was a bit involved in that being on the Planning Commision. We had to review the preliminary plans. They're adding a 70 foot berth for the Tangier Island Ferry in addition to the increased slip space.

There are two other marinas nearby. One in the Mt. Prospect area of town which is over the bridge by the wharf (that's Mt. Prospect Street). About a 1/4 of a mile once you cross the Creek.

The other is in Greenpoint Onancock - about 6 miles (or 6 minutes). That's where I kept my boat. That was $100 a month for a 21 foot boat (slip for a 24 foot boot).
you could tailer the boat until a slip opens up & launch at the Wharf.

ONANCOCK TO OPEN A NEW MUSEUM SOON

The Samuel Outlaw Blacksmith Shop in Onancock will soon be a museum that is open to the public.

In 1927, Samuel Outlaw graduated from a blacksmith apprentice program, moved to Onancock and built a blacksmith shop on Boundary St. For the next 64 years Outlaw served the needs of Eastern Shore farmers, watermen and others. Outlaw retired in 1991 at the ripe old age of 95.

Outlaw’s former shop has remained in the family and now is being readied to re-open as one of the last surviving in tact blacksmith shops in Virginia. A local group is finishing up the process of repairing the building and gathering Outlaw’s tools and plan to make the shop a memorial museum.

Gerald Boyd who heads up the restoration said, in a talk at the Onancock Rotary Club on Tuesday, that the museum will be open for the Garden Tour on April 27 and will begin regular hours later in the summer or early fall.

I guess not then Its a Historical moment in Onacock their getting a museum for a blacksmith Maybe a Onacock HOLIDAY?

I scrolled down on the site you posted ..... those are some beautiful homes !!!

certainly are - that's the idea - Historic homes with Historic Gardens

This is the only one I've been in & only got a glimpse from the Parlor - Mayor's House - amazing. The woodwork is incredible. Didn't get a look at the gardens but they extend all the way down to the Onancock Creek & end at a dock on the Creek, Numerous outbuildings in the back from what I can see,

Built in the mid 1800's by the Mayor's Great Grandfather Benjamin Fosque.

The mayor (Fletcher Fosque) brought up hi 4 kids there. It's been in the family since it was built.

We stayed at the Inn,the interior of that old house is restored to perfection really beautiful,do you know the owners wader,Matt and Kim?

I know Matt - I'm on the Planning Commision with him. Both he & his wife are from up north. I forget where. Baltimore I think. Always wanted to operate a B&B but couldn't afford it up north.

You picked an expensive one to stay at. Had looked at that for my mother & stepfather (they can't handle my stairs).
$250 a night as I recall with a 3 course meal plus wine pairings.

When I first met Matt & mentioned he reminded me of someone.

"Howdy Doody?'

Was his reply........................
:ROFLMAO:

Nice guy.

Even if he does look like Howdy Doody.

Mack - drove past this one this afternoon. Looked nice - thought I'd look it up.

Just over 1/2 acre with a garage (you don't see many of those here). Looks to have its own well in addition to Public Water. Probably for irrigation outside. That's a definite plus. I had looked into having a shallow well sunk & it ran $5000 + electric. Water is expensive here because of an oversized/way over capacity town waste treatment plant that was put in a few years ago. Sewage costs are double the water cost. Only thing down here that's more expensive than up north.

Looks like a wood stove in the kitchen.

Don't know what price range you're interested in. This one was reduced by $5000. It's been on the market since August. I'm thinking another lowering in in the offering now that Spring is here.
