The Onancock Chronicles the Eastern shore

Went to our first rocket launch from Wallops Isl. Was pretty cool. Found a spot about a mile away across the bay to watch.
I didn't know they had a launch scheduled but I heard the roar yesterday & was wondering if a launch had taken place. Sounded too loud & "deep throated" to be one of the Navy's craft flying overhead.

"A Spy Comes to Onancock"

Event by Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society
Historic Onancock School

During the Revolutionary War, James Armistead Lafayette infiltrated the British army as a servant for Lord Cornwallis. Nearly a decade later, the Virginia General Assembly granted the enslaved New Kent man his freedom in return for his courageous contribution.

More than 230 years later, you can meet him. Well almost. Stephen Seals, who interprets Lafayette, is one of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s Nation Builders, and he’s coming to the Shore to share the spy’s story.

Ker Place is the headquarters of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society, located in Onancock, Va.

Ker Place, a national and Virginia historical landmark built from 1799 to 1803 by John and Agnes Ker, has been dubbed the finest example of Federal-period, Georgian-style architecture on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
Today, the grand house is not only a museum with extensive archives and collections but also serves as the headquarters of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society. It also provides an elegant venue for your special occasion.

Perennial Roots Farm is at Perennial Roots Farm.

Being human is hard. Being human and allowing yourself to feel is even harder. Time and again, we are our own worst enemy. How do we keep ourselves soft without crumbling? How is it that we still have not learned that war is never the answer?

As I look around at all of the intricate relationships that weave and wend their way to form the ecosystem of my farm, I am reminded how we each and every one of us are connected to each other. To sever any one part is to cut ourselves off from an entire imagining of what that future might hold. To heal these broken bonds is to love and when we give ourselves over to love, we begin an awakening of sorts.

I don't pretend to hold answers or the keys to life. Quite honestly, I don't pretend to know anything at all, but this I do know: when you plant a seed today, you are imaging the lush universe of tomorrow. When you pour your love and attention into that seed, that animal, that cloud, that particular universe, you open a door to another, full of boundless possibilities. Or to put it a different way: you reap what you sow. So today I sow seeds for tomorrow, taking care that these are the stories I belong to, tangled and raw though they may be.

The magical tickle of hundreds of seedlings under my fingertips, the sun warm on my body, the rough sweet lick of my favorite cow, the familiar sound of the woodpecker who lives in the pine tree right outside my kitchen window, all stories that grab hold of me, reminding me who I am. What are your stories? What do you love and how will you tell them? And beneath it all, tangled up in war and love, a memory that we, each of us, are connected, whether or not we remember, despite man's best efforts to chop and sever, the forest always grows back, roots interwoven and stronger than ever before.
