We have 6 blueberry bushes. Bought them at Henry Leuthardt nursery (moriches) in 1984. If I remember, they were Jersey, Early blue and Blueray. Still going strong 36 years later. They are nothing to look at but we get close to 4 gallons of berries every July. They need to be covered with netting or the birds will completely wipe them out. If you looked at the bushes you never would believe the yield.

I hear about the netting John................

I have a cherry tree (self pollinating). Cherries are nice & sweet - however - even with the netting the dang birds pretty much get all the cherries anywho by going under the net. I have to keep an eye on it for when it looks to be about ripe so I can get them before the birds do. I can generally tell if they're ready for picking by the number of birds trying to get under the net in the morning.

They still probably get 80% of them before I do.

Picked up 4 more blueberry bushes today. Also, my lettuce, radish, and pole bean seeds came today from Burpee. Everything is in. Hopefully this rain we’re supposed to be getting sows them in good.

Question on the blueberry bushes. Do I need to pollinate them myself with a small paintbrush or will they do it on their own?
