Short Jones Beach Story here. Not racist, just true. I worked there for 8 years through college. In 1969 they "imported" young men from Harlem to work. One, named Joe Reid, was the spitting image of Joe Frazier.
While pounding in stakes to anchor snow fence that September, he looked at me and asked if I was a Jew. Summoning up some courage from I know not where, I looked him in the eye and told him I was probably more Protestant than he was. Methodist and Baptist, lol. He just smiled and nodded but I then asked him why. He told me (a kid from a lily white town who had yet to attend college) that twice a month, local grocery store owners would raise the prices of EVERYTHING and for that they were hated. Having been indoctrinated by high school teachers, I was quite shocked, as I had thought differently. Yet they both predominantly vote the same way every November. Over 50 years later I remember this like it was yesterday. But Holy doo doo Batman could he swing that sledge !
