The key here is access to your transactions in an account. Nothing to do with the 10K reporting. That is limited to them knowing you made a 10K transaction, not the activity in the actual account.

So to give a real world scenario. A small business grosses $1M dollars. Ok. And during the year, they take out a $250K credit line.

Fast forward to tax filing. The corporate return would state $1M dollars of gross income. But if the authorities look at the bank transaction, they see DEPOSITS of $1.250M. See the issue? They have never had that much information. Right now, only what the tax return states.

The return says $1M of gross proceeds, but the DEPOSITS say $1.250M. A letter could be sent out for a closer look!

Audits go up. Whether justified or not!
