Whats going on in the World

Acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Todd Lyons said Tuesday the agency is carrying out the "largest immigration operation ever" in Minneapolis.

He said Department of Homeland Security law enforcement, under the leadership of Secretary Kristi Noem, has surged to Minneapolis to target fraud, arrest perpetrators and remove criminal illegal aliens.

Hilton Hotels announced on Tuesday that it was ending its relationship with an independently owned Minneapolis-area hotel after a newly released video appeared to confirm that the property was still refusing to accommodate Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Nice! But keep up the pressure on Hilton.

Any of you guys ever had season tickets for anything more than a MAGA rally?

NY football, and baseball to a somewhat lessor extent is after the corporate market, and season tickets are now marketed in packages which includes much more than just a seat. It’s all about money, money, money.

And if you guys think that tickets prices are within the budget of the average blue collar middle class working man you are sadly mistaken.

No, I've never had season tickets to anything. What's your point?

I'll never understand leftist thinking. Sporting events are a luxury item. They're entertainment, and nothing more. Nobody will starve, go blind or have their lifespan reduced if they don't see a baseball game in person. I'm sure Johnny Punchclock can't afford a private jet either. Maybe Mahmdummy can work on lowering the price of those too.

I just don't see where it's incumbent on the government to force anything like price control or to decide what non-essential the "Common Man" is entitled to access and at what level. Why in God's name would anybody think it's the government's job to change the price of baseball tickets? While we're at it, let's figure out how to get cheaper Broadway tickets too. We should probably also work on cruises and European vacations.

I'm almost sympathetic to lowering the cost of public transportation, but it's already run by the MTA, and it's the biggest clusterfu¢# in New York State. However, in typical leftist fashion, instead of acknowledging the failure let's just double down on it. I'm sure if we give the MTA more power, control and money they'll get it right next time. Maybe they can bring some of that magic to the ballpark too.

Oh BTW, I recently found out that one of my cousins got season tickets to their favorite NFL team. It was a several year long waiting list, but they're certainly not corporate types or 1%ers. Just like the Yankees magically keep selling tickets even though they're "unaffordable." The argument is bull puckey and a fundamental failure to separate feelings from facts.

A former Georgia state Democrat lawmaker was federally charged for allegedly fraudulently obtaining nearly $14,000 in coronavirus-era unemployment benefits.

The development comes after Karen Bennett, who used to represent state House District 94, wrote a letter to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on Dec. 30 announcing that she would be "retiring" from her position on New Year’s Day after 12 years of service, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

"As a result of the false application and certifications, Bennett collected a total of $13,940 of PUA [Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Program] benefits and federal supplements to which she was not entitled," Theodore Hertzberg, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, wrote in a court filing this week.

Prosecutors allege the former representative applied for PUA benefits in May 2020 and disclosed that she worked for the Georgia General Assembly and ran Metro Therapy, a private business where her role consisted "of providing in-home physical therapy services." They said that in the application, Bennett claimed the job was "her primary occupation and primary means of livelihood" and the "pandemic prevented her from performing any service in connection with" Metro Therapy.

A Harvard University dean has been removed after a student-run news outlet exposed social media posts slamming Whiteness, police and advocating for looting and rioting.

Gregory Davis, the former Dunster House Allston Burr resident dean, found himself in the hot seat after a Harvard student-run news outlet called Yard Report resurfaced the problematic posts. Davis was on leave last semester for reasons unrelated to the controversy.

It is deep in these schools. Just stop funding with taxpayer monies. Very simple.

In a resurfaced tweet and video clip, a top housing official in newly minted New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration previously called homeownership a "weapon of white supremacy" and argued that property should be treated as a "collective good."

Cea Weaver, a longtime housing activist and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, was tapped by Mamdani to be his director of the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants.

Since taking office, Weaver has gone viral for several tweets she posted on her since-deleted X account.

It just doesn't stop! Wow. Kudos to these groups digging in.

FIRST ON FOX: Stanford University is promoting required reading courses that incorporate anti-ICE sentiments, racial identity politics and all-male drag shows, resulting in criticism from a leading education watchdog.

A writing requirement at the prestigious university, formally known as Stanford’s writing and rhetoric requirement, mandates that students complete university-approved writing courses designed to teach critical thinking, research and persuasive writing skills, but several of the writing courses that satisfy that requirement are raising eyebrows, Campus Reform first reported.

The courses contain names such as "Language, Identity, and Power" where students are instructed, according to the university’s website, to "explore this intersection across spheres such as politics, education, medicine, and media spaces, intertwined with forces like globalization, immigration, and the rapid development of new technologies."

"Our Future is Each Other: Collaborative Rhetorics" is another course offered by Stanford that features an essay "on the all-male ballet drag troupe, Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo" while promoting its lessons as text that will "engage with a diversity of cultural practices and rhetoric."

Sporting events have only become a “luxury” item in recent years. It was not too long ago it very affordable for the middle class.

Partnerships between government, professional team franchises, and other corporations can build business relationships that are beneficial for all. And these relationships stand on their own to lower ticket cost for the average working man…….. and it doesn’t cost you, the taxpayer a dime.

This type of cooperation can lead to lower ticket pricing for many while maintaining the higher end clients the teams want attract as well. It will never go back to the pricing it was. but so much can be done to improve things for the regular Joe Smoe.

Take a look at the chart showing average ticket cost for a NY Yankee game. In 2024 it was $68. Family of four $272. Add another $20 for parking, and probably another $100 for a scorecard, a few hotdogs, soda, and maybe a beer.

You’re at about $400 easy for a few hours at the ballpark.

Luxury item.... You and I will severely differ on this. Your perception of Luxury is something uhhhh,... luxurious..... Like diamonds, Rolls-Royces or premium soaps.

Let's do the semantic thing. It's a non-essential, elective purchase. Particularly if it's for your entertainment. Like movie tickets, or going to a baseball game, it's not a necessity. Nobody is going to die or suffer premature ejaculation.

I will give you this. The taxpayer should NEVER be subsiding stadiums or sports franchises. These fu¢#s have plenty of money. And clearly they benefit from the cozy relationship between corporations, big money donors and government officials. So, if we want to fix the price of tickets maybe we should make the franchises foot the bill and let Johnny Puchclock boycott the games and see what happens to ticket prices.
