42 years ago today, Gary Plauché shot and killed Jeffrey Doucet, the man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted Plauché's son. As Doucet was being escorted through an airport to stand trial, Plauché pretended to use a telephone booth. When Doucet passed him with cameras rolling, Plauché turned, shot Doucet through the head, hung up the phone and surrendered to police. The image posted above was from a live 1984 video feed, one second before the shooting.





Plauché told authorities that any parent in a similar position would have done the same thing, stating "if somebody did it to your kid, you'd do it too." He was sentenced to seven years, all of which was suspended and five years probation with 300 hours of community service. He never saw a day in jail. Shortly before his death at age 68, Plauché gave an interview stating he did not regret killing Doucet and would do so again.
