It is 1am, and intensive care doctor Vanina Edul is trying vainly to remember the names of all the Covid patients who have died on her watch.

The 47-year-old physician still remembers the first patient she saw die of Covid last year. “He was 60, and we were surprised because that was young for that long-ago time. We thought only old people died. How wrong we were,” she says.

With both the Brazilian and UK variants circulating widely in Argentina, the patients she is now seeing at the Fernández public hospital in Buenos Aires are dying faster, and younger: one recent victim was just 42 when he died.

“I am seeing people die in less than a week – young patients unresponsive to treatment. You administer oxygen, do all the mechanics – turn them face down, face up – but it doesn’t work. Then there are other patients whose oxygenation level is not so bad – but they die anyway,” Edul says.

A devastating second wave of Covid cases has caught Argentina off-guard, with relaxed restrictions and a low vaccination rate. Cases have risen from a daily total of about 5,000 in early March to a record 35,000 this week, while deaths surged from 112 at the start of March to a record 744 on Tuesday. On Wednesday daily contagions set a new record, just under 40,000 cases, while deaths dropped to 494.

I also d/l it. Jab 3/5/21 good until 9/5/21. So what happens after that. If I want to go to a ballgame on 9/6/21, I'm no longer considered vaccinated???

my guess is that by September they figure it'll not be needed as we may have reached Herd Immunity even though we still have holdouts - also keeps those who have not been vaccinated & may have purchased faux vaccination cards via the internet out
 
SWMBO and I grocery shopped at local ShopRite yesterday. Sign at entrance "recommended" we still wear a mask.
I kept my bandanna in my pocket. Sadly I was the ONLY one in the store whose smile could be seen. No more fogged glasses and hearing aids getting caught on the mask! Both of us had second Moderna before the first week of March. Could its Booster be combined with the flu shot ?

I was in CVS last night and the mask sign was still up. Supposedly, these are the Hudson Valley stores that have made them optional.

While I rarely agree with Jimmy Kimmel on anything - I gotta give him some kudos here:

Jimmy Kimmel noted on Thursday that searches for fake vaccination cards spiked after federal health experts announced last week that fully vaccinated people can stop wearing masks and take part in more activities.

The late-night host called it “so gross” that people are actually buying these fake coronavirus vaccination cards to get the benefits of being vaccinated without actually getting the shots.

“Let’s start calling these vaccine avoiders what they are,” he said. “Freeloaders.”

Then he really went to town:
“The only reason you’re somewhat safe now is because other people got the shot. You’re the person who heads for the bathroom when the check comes at the restaurant. You’re the lady who takes home the centerpieces from a wedding you weren’t invited to. You’re the guy who brings five napkins to a potluck dinner. That’s you.”

“You don’t think it’s you,” he added. “But it’s you.”

When I show up at your home it’s with a first growth of Bordeaux and a full prime rib

Kimmel is a fool and what’s wrong with society, someone like him being allowed to voice only one opinion and not accurately share others Makes matters worse, not better.

My wife and I have always gone over and above for many....family , friends , people in need and society but we also so no when to call BULLSHIT.
 
I had my second shot on 1/28....My excelsior pass had an expiration date of 4/28. On 4/30, my pass had a new expiration date of 7/28.

Dont know why they are doing it this way but its still nice to have proof of vaccination on my phone.

Wife had her first shot yesterday. Just walked into our local CVS and asked for it.

If the crowds around town last night are any indication, NYC is alive and well!!!!
 
Kimmel is 100% correct!

Things are opening up BECAUSE of the vaccine, NOT in spite of it!

If you dont see that....well.......you're just a nay sayer for the sake of being a nay sayer!

Reaping the benefits of other peoples due diligence is all you're doing. Thankfully, the majority in this country are not as selfish.
