Why I Stopped Watching Wicked Tuna

I knew the show was full of it, but the season they're taping right now will be of PHD quality, Piled Higher and Deeper!!

Let me share a IM from our resident Tuna Expert, my fellow Maineah. The text was in response to my question if there were any tuna about:

Yes, but haven't been out because the price dropped to $1.00 per lb, ugh!

Now I guarantee that when folks watch the show next April, Dave, Tyler, Marciano, TJ et al. will be quoted prices in excess of $10 a lb, total BULLCHIT!!

Why did I ask about tuna, NOT for fishing, but whether or not to put the Tuna Repellent, my tuna rods, on board for an offshore boat ride I'm taking later in the week with some old work colleagues. If the rods are on board, no tuna will be spotted. If not on board, tuna will be spotted and I'll go through an extreme demonstration of frustration, probably scaring my guests to death...

I watch it during the off season. Strictly entertaining. It’s nice to see the big fish here and there. It’s reality tv it’s all BS....
That’s like saying the WWF/WWE IS REAL...?????

So guess what jumped 4 times next to my boat this afternoon because I DIDN'T have the "heavy artillery" aboard!!

OY, I dragged the gear out of the basement after that...

It's only a problem if you WANT to catch fish but left you gear HOME !!!!, Oh im sure he had gear but as the saying goes. "Don't take a knife to a gun fight" :giggle:

Sorry Bud but i had to say that. :)

No offense taken. You're correct. I had 3 striper spinning rods with about 200 yds of 30 lb braid on them, and a diamond jigging rod w/350 yds of 65 lb braid. The fish was between 5 and 6 ft long...

The Admiral said, "Why not try?" My comment was, "IF I do hookup, you'll have to drive the boat like a bat out of hell to follow the fish!!"

"Why would I have to do that?"

"If you don't he'll strip my reel in about 15 seconds flat!!!!"

"Really?"

Conversation was over as I was ROTDLMAO, saying "The only good thing that would happen would be an epic fail with one hell of a fish story!"

Needless to say the 6/0 rod spooled with 130 lb braid is now up from the basement, ready to be tuna repellent, as I never see a fish when cruising around if the heavy artillery is on board...

Sounds like your buddy is messing with you! It's Exactly what I would say to keep other Comms and Rec's off the Meat? (Low Price at the market). :)

Trick is too kep the rod/reel separate until necessary

Ha Ha, wrong guy Don. I only tell it the way it is. I share whatever intel i have. :) What happened up here is this. About 3 weeks ago NMFS dropped the Comm. quota to 1 fish a day from 3 fish. While that was a good move it was to late IMHO. About the same time the market tanked (according to the buyers) because "the Long liners flooded the market with their product." So, they dropped heir paying price to $2.00. after a week it dropped to $1. 00. and to beat all that then they said "Do not bring fish in, we are not buying them" .

So here we sit with a thumb up our a$$. Oh but their are guys still fishing (Comms.) I don't know what their doing with them as im not privied to that info. So yeah the $1. thing is /was true along with the rest. The fish are out there and as Dom well knows I would be out their also. :)

Wow Don! I honestly initially thought the $1 price was kind of joke, but apparently it is not. Is the issue simply an oversupply which will correct and balance out, or are there other factors; like quality of fish, international demand being week, or buyers buying from other global locations?

All true, I was talking to Dave Marciano last week and he said that they were releasing any fish they caught on charters because the price was so low he didn't want to kill them.

Well Don IMHO (with a few facts i have gathered) it's more/ ALL about the buyers. The word i got from one of them wa as i said,"The longliners flooded the market" My answer to that is for 35 years the Londliners have been flooding the market during this season then things change after their quota is filled. So in conclusion that's total BS !!. In past times we use to get 12.to 22. a pound it would drop a little to maybe 9. or 10. Excuse then was 'Longliners flooded the market". It gets worst from there but i just can't type that much. My Anxiety may give me a heart attack.:(

Yeah the whole situation Suck$ for sure, not everyone in this business is Honest.
