Coronavirus

Just to restate this grim news once again...

I hate to belabor this point as I know I've said it before, but once an effective vaccine has been approved and mass-vaccinations begin we WILL NOT go immediately revert to the "Pre-life Normal of 2019".

Even though NOBODY wants to hear or believe it, if a vaccine was approved today, 2021 WILL LOOK MUCH LIKE 2020, with mask wearing, social distancing, economic turmoil, grim CDC reports, etc.

I wouldn't be planning any travel in 2021. AAMOF I've got an October 2021 overseas trip that I'll be rebooking soon and will probably rebook a spring 2022 trip also, both of which that were originally 2020 trips.

I'm quite skeptical that we'll ever get back to life as we knew it prior to 2020. Wearing masks might be something we all do in the future when we're out in crowds, something that Asians have been doing for years. Shunning crowds and crowded indoor gatherings, an innate reaction by myself, will probably be a good idea for everyone.

And don't forget, COVID-19 was not a freak incident. Hopefully there will never be another pandemic like this, but if you believe that, there's a nice bridge between Manhattan and Brooklyn you might be interested to invest in...
I’ll take bets and give odds
That while small pockets of the United States populace will succumb to mask wearing and social distancing for prolonged periods of time

the vast majority will not

This new normal will not last
People simply won’t tolerate it hell their already not tolerating it
You can reference China till the cows come home this isn’t China

You enjoy living in a city. I enjoy visiting a city for culture, but wouldn't want to live there. Towering oaks call to me stronger than towering buildings, high temperatures and crowds.

All a matter of what floats your boat...

No miracles on 34th St this year thanks to COVID. Actually surprised the parade is still going on, but there's still time for that to get cancelled...

One of New Yorkers' beloved holiday traditions is making some changes for the 2020 season.
Since 1861, families have flocked to Macy's in Herald Square to venture through the whimsical, festive Santaland, and of course, snag some one-on-one time with the man in the red suit. This year, things will look a little different: From Nov 27 through Dec 24, Macy’s Santaland will be transformed into an interactive, virtual experience, ultimately bringing a little piece of NYC Christmas magic to homes everywhere.

“At Macy’s, the safety of our customers and colleagues is paramount,” Susan Tercero, Macy’s vice president of Branded Entertainment, said in a statement. “To replicate the magical experience of visiting Macy’s Santaland for children and their families, we will shift to a virtual engagement this year. "Macy’s is delighted to have found a way to ensure even more families can enjoy this treasured experience safely during this festive time of the year.”

Grab a cup of cocoa, put on some Christmas songs for kids and venture to the North Pole from the comfort of home via Macy’s Santaland at Home. (It's free!)

There’s going to be a lot of that

heck there already is

a fast drive around nyc at night bears out the fact that overall compliance to any of the regulations is minimal at best

resturants are building expanded indoor areas under the guise of them being outdoors

The gay community is having a free for all on 9 th Avenue nightly

Harlem comes alive after 10 pm nightly looks like maris gras
And that’s just to name a few areas

the entire things been a joke from day one
Token head fakes toward compliance and little more

the longer it goes the more folks simply don’t comply in a meaningful fashion

Oh crap. Now there'll be forced vaccinations at gunpoint,... cats and dogs living together, the whole fabric of our society torn apart...

Yup, right up there with "If we stop testing, we'd have no new cases". Nothing like shooting the messenger.

Germany’s national disease control center attacked

BERLIN — Several people attacked Germany’s national disease control center with incendiary devices early Sunday, Berlin police reported.

A security guard noticed the attack on the Robert Koch Institute in the German capital and was able to quickly extinguished the flames. Nobody was injured, but one window was destroyed. Criminal police has taken over the investigation on suspicion that the attack may have been politically motivated.

Among other things, the institute keeps track of Germany’s coronavirus outbreak. It publishes daily new infection figures and also advises the government and the public on how to keep the pandemic from getting out of control.

While most Germans support the country’s handling of the pandemic, some have tried to downplay the dangers of the virus.

On Sunday, the institute reported 11,176 new daily infections, almost double the number reported a week ago Sunday. Another 29 people died of COVID, bringing Germany’s overall death toll to 10,032.
