Yes you'll get a COVID response to the first shot, but to get the 95% immunity you need the two shots of the current US vaccines, AND you need this for the almost 100% protection from developing a severe case of COVID.

Oh excuse me for not citing the other CAPTAIN OBVIOUS crap in the article, which I did read. Here's a news flash for Mr. Edelstein, ain't even an MD or PhD: even people who've had both injections will have to "be very, very cautious". The vaccine isn't body armor that sets up a force field around you, prevent the entry of virus. The vaccine isn't going stop masks, social distancing, etc. Only when herd immunity causes the pandemic to burn out, will we start thinking about losing the masks.

Didn't say that, did he??? Fauci, et al. have been saying it, but since nobody wants to hear that, the news tends not to carry it.

There are many who have serious concerns regarding vaccination. If they just read headlines like this, some may make poor personal medical decisions based on a poorly written statement thanks to a internet headline editor looking for hits.

This is what happens when you don’t play in the dirt growing up. So as stated above the Vaccine is not changing anything until Herd Immunity takes over aka Darwinism, runs its coarse.

Posts like this warm the cockles of my heart, as they demonstrate the poster hasn't a clue as to what they are talking about.

For the record, I do agree that some of our current health problems in terms of things like common food allergies, e.g. peanut butter, are a direct cause of the fairly sterile lives children live these days. Playing in the dirt is a good thing for developing immune systems, in My Opinion.

Now, I could interpolate your comments to include possible Corona viruses enhanced immunity, but only if kids play in bat-infested caves with lots of bat guano in the dirt. However since few, if any of us have done that, your hypothesis is just bat chit crazy. (Sorry, but that was a rare scientific hanging curve that had to be slugged out of the park)

As to your Darwinism vs. Herd Immunity comment, that is so off base it's tragically laughable. You do realize to deliver the Herd Immunity number of 80%, 80% of the US population will have to have successfully fought off a COVID-19 infection or have had the full course of the vaccine. Let's figure out what that number is: 80% of 331 million people = 265 million people.

NOW the ugly math. The vaccines, are 95% effective in a recipient contracting COVID-19, which is damn good, AND they are 100% effective in keeping any vaccinated people OUT OF A COFFIN, so none of those 265 million vaccinated people will die.

Evoking the memory of my beloved Charles Darwin, there will continue to be deaths as the US population reaches that 80% got sick number, so let's figure those numbers.

Let's US fatality rate due to COVID-19 by taking the number of deaths, 386,000 per 23.2 million cases or 1.66%

So in the vaccinated world of 80% herd immunity, NONE of the vaccinated group, although 1.66% of the 20% unvaccinated folks will die. That number is 1.1 million

HOWEVER, since we're going full Darwin Herd Immunity, 80% of the population is going to have to get sick, so that means we'll have 4.4 million deaths over the 1.1 million deaths from the folks who were waiting for the 80% vaccination rate to be achieved. Of course the 1.66% death rate depends on a working health care system. As more and more people get sick, the hospitals will get overloaded and the death rate will climb as the quality of care will drop.

Are you comfortable with 4.4 million PREVENTABLE DEATHS in the US??

I can understand your confusion regarding Suffolk County, I'm confused. If the numbers are correct, 1.2 million cases on a population of 1.47 million folks, you're at 83%. The only things I can surmise is that either the numbers are off for things like year round population under call because of all the "refugees" from the city moving out there/running out to their summer homes, and/or the difference between a PCR positive and someone who had enough virus to mount an full-blown immunological response. Unfortunately, we don't have good population data to see what % of people with a PCR positive result and COVID Antibody Tests.

PCR can be too sensitive, something I explained the COVID science thread. It's a scientists sure fire way to find that needle in the haystack. And since it's exquisitely specific, one has to be careful calling a PCR positive result as a true case of COVID infection. If you've noticed, most of the tests say they're best used on symptomatic people.

Now there is talk about high numbers of false positive PCR results. I believe you and/or Tony commented on this. That's not true, the test did correctly detect COVID nucleic acids. It's just that we can't correlate the number/amount of nucleic acid with the actual clinical situation. If the testing is done with 40 cycles, a SINGLE strand of viral RNA will be detected as > 500 billion copies. Sometimes it's a good idea to turn down the volume.
