Coronavirus

I haven't opined on this yet but I have been following developments since mid January on Covid-19.

That said, here's my take: Watch what they (governments, municipalities, corporations) actually are doing, not just what they say.

As a preface, it is well known that a BIO Level 4 hazard lab was within 20 miles of the Wuhan seafood market. Bio 4 labs study, research, engineer perhaps, etc... the most lethal viruses. Kind of a coincidence that the outbreak originates in that location? Perhaps not.

Lock downs:
Governments have locked down mass regions across China, Singapore and now Italy. Why lock down communities of 20MM people (in china's instance) if the threat is not more real than led to believe? Italy just locked down the whole Lombardy region, which is in Milan, northern Italy. Schools are closed across Japan. Multiple US cities have declared state of emergencies, NY being the latest. Cruise ships held at sea not aloud to enter ports of destination. Again, if its only as bad, or slightly worse than a common cold, why do this?

Corporations: Major Fortune 500 companies are dusting off their Business Resiliency Plans and are enacted contingency plans now, for employees to work from home, and separating critical business functions across locations (see JP Morgan and the major Investment Banks, Broker Dealers, etc..) This includes the likes of Apple, Facebook and Google, who have directed staff to not travel, and work from home when possible. They have also cancelled, among other corporate companies, most mass events, such as developer conferences and are encouraging various forms of telecommute.

Why? What do the heads of these companies know about the velocity of the spreading of the virus, its potential infection rate and mortality?

Other major concerns:
Supply Chain
: Not going to type much, but you'll see, and we are seeing, the beginnings of supply chain constraint. The port of LA shipments off 15% in February 2020 YoY. I was shocked to find out that upwards of 80% of all common antibiotics, aspirin, etc...are formulated (? if that is the right term) put together in China.

Demand: Demand for products produced, packaged in China could also be diminished for fear of virus being transmitted on inorganic objects....this could lead to a continuous feedback loop, where supply is shrinking and demand craters for certain consumer products.

Not be alarmist, and I left a lot of things out, but one must ask WHY are the Gov's, Municipalities, Corps, doing so much if this isn't a really Potentially big deal?

My personal ASSsumption, is that there was some serious virus that was being worked on/studied etc.. in Wuhan, and it got out into the open. China knows it, the US knows it, and the powers that be know it too.

Again, watch what they DO, not what they say.

Word from a friend of mine, who's buddy (who I know of) is a big executive at FB (sits in the same area as Zuckerberg): their working on a platform in collaboration with the WHO and CDC to track and monitor CV-19. They have some global infection rate/mortality etc... data sets that are being crunched and trying to make sense of it all. The dude said that the current trajectory indicates 10K plus US infections in the US by 3/21. The infection rate is doubling every 3 days. We are 10.5 days behind Italy. He said he hopes it is not true and that they are wrong.

We are at 15K+- confirmed infections in the USA as of today.

daughter furloughed without pay from her job day before yesterday - she worked with Autistic Adults...........

Anyone need a babysitter in the Farmingdale area?

Hey everyone. So my job closed down yesterday. I can only use my PTO and then once it runs out that's it. I don't get paid anymore. I am a new hire at my job so I don't have a lot. Started in October.

If there is anyone willing to let me babysit their child while they are at work or watch your child while you work from home please let me know. I am willing to sing, read, play video games, help with homework, play whatever game they would like, make them lunch and just help you take some stress off of your shoulders. I currently work for QSAC which is a company that takes care of adults with disabilities. I work in the day rehabilitation centers. I do also have experience with children with disabilities. Primarily autism. I am CPR and first aid trained. I am also SCIP trained. I would be asking 15 an hour but I am willing to adjust to whatever you can afford to do.

Message me if you know of anyone that may be interested.
She'll be 31 in July.

I think should could benefit from applying to CARE.COM

I’m in medical device sales. Some of which are used for elective surgeries. Been working from home since last Thursday. It’s tough with the two kids and the wife being home. Can’t get much done, not that there is much to do besides all of these conference calls that the company keeps on putting on. Time management, insides sales techniques, etc. We had a call with a honcho last week to address the virus and another call today. Man did he change his tune. Last week it was “This is just kind of like a cold” to “Stay home and weather the storm. Take care of your families”. I got a paycheck coming in so I can’t really complain. The issue is that most of my compensation comes from commissions which are declining faster and faster. Scary times for sure, but at least we’re healthy and I have some food on the side.

Feel for you Benny. Par for the course. Understand this tough: the sales managers don't know jackshot about the market or business in general. They'll tell you to SPIN or go for no or don't spills your beans or any of handful of sales techniques that dont work and everyone knows.

The reality is that the Buyers are shut down, mostly by budget and consequence. Their focus is essential devices and supplies to combat the virus and maintain continuity in the system. And they are all human like us, with families and kids and concerns, mostly about if they will actually have a job on 2-6 weeks.

So they are not buying shit, unless your medical devices are in great demand and there is limited supply. Or if your company can pivot: take existing products into new markets or new products into new markets... FAST. etc on the 4x4 matrix and find or create demand.

Sorry to be the messenger but this is the new reality. Save your $$$ now
