So here is my "non-scientific" observation from the last 18 months leading into current times. I am sure we all knew someone who had COVID or worse, died from COVID. Heck, my wife and I had it, my daughter did too and my son, well only antibodies to show for his adventure, he never knew he had it. Only minor residual for me is sometimes food just does not seem the same yet. Very subtle flavors missing, or not appreciated by those taste buds, but again, NO ISSUE, I am upright and functioning fine in society. 3 of us vaccinated, son finishing up his in the next week or so. So fast forward to recent times. There are five cases right now that are "close to home". Current results - 1 death, 2 hospitalizations requiring life saving treatment, and two as I sometimes read here " just a cold" type symptoms. Further research - 1 death and 2 hospitalizations no vaccine, the two "colds" are vaccinated. What does this mean, nothing! Just a first hand observation.

Tony, your statement used to be true, and I mean >20 years ago, but since then modern science has allowed vaccines, and I mean all vaccines, to focus on ensuring that a vaccine makes the recipient focus their immune response to one or a few critical targets.

When you're naïve to an infection, your immune system makes 100s, if not 1000s antibodies of different specificity to the "bug". Now only a handful, if not less, of these different types are actually be effective in killing the bug or impacting it's ability to reproduce inside you. Modern vaccines focus your immune system to make the most effective antibodies. In the case of COVID, to make antibodies against "key" on the spike protein which is critical to opening a host cell to infection.

As far as the 100% immunity of previous infections, there have been breakthrough cases and no one is sure how long natural immunity will last, so as a precaution, they're recommending the vaccine. More antibodies sure can't hurt, especially if recovered COVID patients antibodies' are mostly directed at unimportant parts of the COVID virus.

And as a note, although Pfizer is recommending a booster because of a dropping antibody levels in vaccinated folks, Moderna just published data showing no need for a booster. This is all a work in progress and I fully expect there will be boosters in a future, if not to re-energize our immune system, but to address new variants as they continue to mutate.

Especially after that idiot fauchi said specifically on many many occasions we needed the vaccine to speed up heard immunity because the risk of waiting for it to happen natural was to great) to follow that logic there would be no heard immunity without the vaccine and that’s simply untrue , or we’d all never have been born .)

AMEN, as I'm retired from a highly, Federally-regulated industry. My favorite, and most exasperating example is, "Yes I see your point that doing this test as stated in the regs is scientifically invalid, but since it's in the regs you must do it!"

Gods honest truth, while the same situation was met in Germany with, "Ya, don't do that test, that makes no sense, but your suggested substitute is a great idea!"

No definition is fine, just how we use the term, similar to calling photocopies "Xeroxes" or facial tissue "Kleenex". Yes, no vaccine itself works directly against a virus, they depend on stimulating the immune system to do that, and I've never said that any vaccine directly stops a virus so what's your point?

FYI: Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, is the officially FDA approved product name, for this, a vaccine that elicits in immune response against the COVID-19 spike protein.

Also I think you screenshot is NOT something you looked up on the OED website, but something you found on one of your "Fake News" websites. I'd love to see the link because that parenthetical statement seems to be an insert.

At 70, I am still kayak fishing and deer hunting, mowing my lawn, etc. If I were 40, I would think much like that, especially since they would have to have me show up for the test on THEIR time, not mine, just like when I would laugh off having to go for "random urinalysis." Of everyone in the office, I was usually the one least likely to use pot, coke or any of the other stupid stuff, yet I was "selected" more than everyone. Wish I could have won Lotto as often. But I got the Moderna to help prevent hospitalization or an earlier than I would prefer, death.
