Coronavirus


This is a very long video. I watched it or rather listened to it. But as a father who had to watch his 10 year old son be intubated in pediatric icu 3 years ago it struck a nerve. I hope none of you ever have to go through it. The noises I heard I will never forget. Maybe it will save one person, I don’t know. Moral behind the story is PLEASE unless you just washed your hands. DONT TOUCH YOUR FACE!!

Spoke to a friend who lives on Cape Cod, they had the same problem with folks from Boston who have summer homes on the Cape. They arrived in droves.

It’s all fun and games till someone tests positive ups there and destroys whatever hospital resources are available. At least the governor of NJ told people with Shore houses don’t come down cause we aren’t going to be able to help you out.

The streets of Bergamo are empty. As in all of Italy, people can leave their homes only for food and medicine and work. The factories and shops and schools are closed. There is no more chatting on the corners or in the coffee bars.

But what won’t stop are the sirens.

More than 1,600 people have officially died in the Bergamo region. That is the most in Italy, which as of Friday evening had registered 9,134 total deaths, more than China and Spain combined and many times more than the United States.

Officials think that the real number of deaths in Bergamo is at least four times higher and that the official number of infections, 8,060, is but a fraction of the total. Bergamo, once known as a wealthy, ancient city with a handsome center, is now known for the coffins piled up in its churches, for the military convoys carrying bodies away for cremation, for the overwhelmed hospitals staffed with exhausted doctors and nurses.

And while the world’s attention shifts to its own centers of contagion, the sirens keep sounding in Bergamo. Like the air raid sirens of World War II, they are the ambulance sirens that many survivors of this war will remember. They blare louder as they get closer, coming to collect the parents and grandparents, the keepers of Italy’s memory.

The grandchildren wave from terraces and spouses sit back on the corners of now empty beds. And then the sirens start again, becoming fainter as the ambulances drive away toward hospitals crammed with coronavirus patients.

“At this point, all you hear in Bergamo is sirens,” said Michela Travelli.

I've read that Italian society is not cut out well for something like this. Multiple generations live under one roof, and they socialize over food in close proximity often. This is really bad for the elders.

Joeb thanks for your reply. I’m gonna stay vigilant and hope you and your family does too. I only posted that to spread the word. We can beat this if we wash our hands, social isolate and don’t touch our face. I have a cousin who works in the icu she sent me the video.
If you stay vigilant I think I can squeeze you on a canyon trip. We might have to scan your temperature first but thats the new world we live in.
