How is the fishing in the Long Island Sound?

I believe the Albies are in Smithtown bay ..... last two trips out I have seen the gulls sitting on the water waiting for the next eruption. From Cranes to the SB head bouy. Along with plenty of bunker, a couple schools with an occasional rush.

I haven't spent enough time looking. Lots of bunker with small blus and some big bass.

There are still a few around. This morning in a honkin' noreast.....

Chunked for four hours today, all over the Triangle and at 28c. One dgfish to show for my effort. Where are the bluefish and if they will be coming soon, are they coming from the West or the East? Just trying to figure out which direction to expand my search for them.

Blues are scarce this year but as you see in a prior post by Capt13 there are a few trophy bass around those areas you were fishing. Also keep your eyes open for any bonito and albies

Porgy porgy porgy, a ton of short sea bass, and some short tog.

Saw a bunch of birds sitting on the water throughout the day. Seemed quite albie like.

Bunker pods just flipping around. Not a predator in sight.

Thanks guys but I have a bluefish tournament this weekend. Where are the blues?

Not to be snarky, BUT you'll probably catch better blues on the Robert Johnson Pandora channel. Dearth of blues will become "Poster Child" Example of Reactionary Fisheries Management when the Fishcrats wake up and realize that there's a problem...

Some 4-5ish lb fish out by Mattituck are the only ones I know of, Pt Jeff area pretty dead, no intel on Western End...

While it is true the quantity of Bluefish has been off now for a couple of years there are still pretty good sized schools available if you are able to fish the far eastern Sound. Plum Gut has a good supply and, if you read my report from yesterday's trip there was no shortage of true Gorillas in the Race.

Took a walk down to Port Jefferson with the pup. Lots of bait in the water. I will have to give it a try soon. Too bad you can't keep Black Sea Bass. The season is June 23rd to August 31st. It is my favorite fish to eat.

In NY that’s for the 3 fish limit. It’s open 9/1-12/31 for 7 fish.
