How is the fishing in the Long Island Sound?

I was out for a while yesterday fishing for porgies at Hart Island in the western sound when I saw bones in the water. Not human bones but bonito. They were feeding on spearing and jumping out of the water. Roughly 18'
' long and moving fast. Going to try for them tomorrow.

Went fishing yesterday. A friend said Port Jeff fishing wasn't good. So towed the boat to Mattituck. Hardly any black sea bass anywhere. Caught a few Porgy's, some blues, a few stripers, Caught two keeper Stripers, but released them in good shape. This year fishing in the Sound really wasn't up to par. The only time the fishing trip that was excellent is when I went with Captain John Paduano. But that was Montauk, not the Sound.

Was out on Saturday morning in the Western LIS. Porgies are still the name of the game along with small seabass. Any decent bottom should hold some fish. Clams and worms both caught well. Also, had a large blowfish.

Wind was pretty bad in the morning. Laid down in the afternoon. This week looks like a mess.

Was out Saturday and today all day trying for blackfish. The potters left me plenty of shorts...30 to 15” on Saturday and near 90 today the same. 1 keeper just over 16”. My crabs get a rack tonight.?

8 good keepers today and about 15 to 20 shorts .24 feet of water east of mattittuck. Released my 3 keepers still plenty of striper in the fridge from yesterday. Insane bass jigging south and a wee west of moriches there is some big ones in this batch up to 30 and some pounds. My son stuck to the bass today and had them again today.

I got over 60 fish today, one after another. Largest went 15”. My sonar showed the bottom was paved with them. I didn’t believe it until I dropped the jig. Tide was cranking in and I went from 1/2 oz up to 2 oz jigs. It got trickier the heavier the jig to hook up. I had to drop the 2 oz hit bottom and lift back up right away or the crab was gone with the scratch. It was like bucktailing for lips!!

I love it when it's like that!

And this is precisely why you cut up every single trap to pieces should you pull them up on your anchor line.

That would be illegal and considered vandalism. Potting is still legal. If you are unfortunate enough to get caught doing that to someones traps, you might find your boat sunk at the dock/mooring. I know people that it has happened to. Better off directing your frustration to changing the existing regulations .......

Its never a good idea to mess with another man's way of earning a living. I'm sure you wouldn't want that done to you.
