too expensive to run sprinklers - only thing more expensive then up in NY is water - not the water itself - see we have an overcapacity sewage system - monthly sewage costs are almost triple the cost of the water - so's we let it burn up until we get some decent rain then it springs back to life - very strange grass - not your LI variety

Bummer ya cant use water there

looked at having a shallow well put in for irrigation only - would have run around $5000 between the well & the electric

Town needed a new sewage plant about 10 years ago - because of its proximity to the Chesapeake - the Commonwealth & EPA Rules required a sewage treatment plant far in excess of the Town's needs.

It has a daily capacity of 750,000 gallons. The Town Manager at the time thought this was a great idea. Even through with the population the Town only generated about a quarter of that. They've been dealing with it ever since. They've begun hooking up other municipalities/towns to it in an attempt to share the costs & thereby lower it - but it's still not coming anywhere near that. Thought the new hospital would help but.......................

As more town's plants are aging & need replacement - they are facing the same problem. We are currently working with a town 20 miles from here that needs to upgrade now (Exmore). Referendum is on that towns ballot for this November to float a bond with the Commonwealth to begin studying the installation of pumping stations along Rt. 13 to get their "grey water" to our plant. That'll go a long way to help. County is now also studying the same thing for hook up to our lines. It's an on-going process. Until then - we pay too much to get rid of our water.

My brother in Richmond has the same problem as their treated sewage flows into the James River which feeds into the Chesapeake. So in an attempt to keep the Bay as clean as possible - everybody's paying a lot for sewage treatment of the water that leaves their homes. It's not quite as bad in Richmond. Much larger population to share the costs between but still higher than it needs to be.

My brother lives on a lake - so he pulls most of his "yard water" from there.

Screw the bushes/grass/trees let them die better yet cut them all down

that's part of my problem - almost all of my property is in the sun - all day - very little shade - I remove the trees it'd be like shooting myself in the foot

will probably go for a shallow well at some point - just don't have the money right now

Kill the trees and anything that needs water
