glad it all worked out for the most part - sorry not all made it - you inspired me to give them a try - never bought them - the one I kept grew quite well - gonna try 'em again next year - - as a rule - do the bulbs regrow well or should I look to just purchase new?

Down there they might survive winter. Up here we have to bring the bulbs indoors and replant in spring

have to do the same - just not sure if they reliably come back the following year - I use to keep caladium bulbs for replanting & the survival rate was only something like 30% - so I buy those new each season - didn't know if these have a similar rate of return so to speak

The Roccus War on White Pine Weevils continues...

This little bastard, the White Pine Weevil, is wrecking havoc with my beloved white pines:

You can tell they're at work when you see this:

When the trees are small, you can treat them easily by clipping the damaged boughs, and giving the plant some Bayer Tree and Shrub Feed and Protect, but when they're bigguns, you just have to watch and hope the tree is big enough to protect itself.

I HATE and am SCARED to death of ladders so when it came past time to clean and install leaf guards on our high 50' long gutter I figured it was time to bite the bullet and rent a lift to avoid multiple ups and downs on a long ladder with uneven ground below. After we finished that job, I looked up at one of our badly infested 45ish ft white pines and said, "WTH let's give it a shot with my extendable pole trimmer?"

Well it did work and I'll be renting this sucker periodically for all my future high-altitude work!!

what does it cost to rent one of those suckers?

Not cheap, $225 for 24 hrs, but the job we did on the gutter would have been at least 40 up and downs on a ladder and there was no way to trim those trees.
