So, Richie built me the rod about 5 years ago. It was designed & cut with tog fishing in mind (as my rods often are). I matched the colors PERFECTLY to a beautiful custom "Lepped-Up" copper-colored Abu Garcia! It's a "SNAZZY" combo - to steal a word from Pete's vocabulary!
As you know, I like to fish LIGHT for tog. For all the fish I target, actually. But to me, catching BIG blackfish on light tackle makes all the effort we put into it so much more rewarding. Then, releasing those BIG fish is the icing on the cake! This rod only has (2) tog over 10 lbs. on it but it did a fantastic job handling them because while it's soft up front, it has some serious hookset power.
I have also used it on numerous occasions for chunking and live-lining bass and even schlepped it out to Montauk for the deeper water, more lead-hungry fluke trips. It's quite a versatile stick. I've been VERY impressed with United Composites and the blanks they are building. After Calstar, I would say they are my 2nd favorite rods - and you can throw CTS in there, rounding out my Top 3.
I haven't used the rod for sea bass yet but I know there are guys out there that are quite addicted to that type of fishing and this rod would do extremely well in that job. It would be a blast for blue demons as well!
