Peconic Porgy Slam-fest This Morning!

Well I know this is a report and should be in report section but after talking ‘bout this for a while I’m posting here?

Finally got it all together but with a initial hiccup. Got up bright and early all forecasts and conditions still look good so me and my son say LET’S GO!!! Leave house and drive to end of road to dock and WTF??? Fog?
NO!!!!
We pack up and toss lines but can’t get pass Ponquogue bridge. Zero visibility?
We take a few fluke drifts NADA
Get a break and head to shinny canal and all is right in the world

After a few drops with minimal results we say let’s go to jessups. Once there we got off to a slow start but tide turned and it was lights out for 2+ hours til we had enuf. Ended up with 27 with lots of 15-16’s in the mix. No monsters but great day

Way to go Mitch! Glad you were finally able to make it up to spring "Porgy Heaven" in the Peconics. Nothing wrong with 15-16" fish at all. Pretty soon the spawners will be leaving but there is still a solid Porgy bite available all summer in that area. Last year I was pleasantly surprised at the mix of a few really large Scup along with the average summer mediums, so that's always a good plan B when other fish develop lockjaw!

Personally, this has been a nightmare season for me as I only made 3 trips and suffered 2 mechanical issues that have kept me tied up recently. The first was just an aging raw water pump that died a little prematurely but was quickly replaced. However, late last week I discovered a hole in my 16 year old oil pan. Now the engine must be pulled to get at that area so I am down for at least another week to ten days. Naturally this happens just as we get the OK to run charters and with the warm weather my phone is starting to ring a lot. Some times you just can't win no matter how hard you try to stay ahead of the maintenance schedule.
Good thing a have a few friends with boats offering to take me out and clear my head. I will be out Fluking a couple of times the next few days.

Thanks Mike?
So sorry to hear of your mechanical issues and like it’s been said “When life looks like easy street there’s danger at your door”?
I’m sure nothing but good karma is going to come your way for all the positive vibes and energy you put out!!!!

Those 15-16’s come out great in the smoker and I’m planning

on running that in the next day or day

Here’s a few more pics including a cute little weakfish Dan pulled up

Congratulations chinacat! Glad you were finally able to get out and put a hurtin' on those chops!

@Capt. Mike, sorry to hear that you have had such a hard time of it this season. 2020 definitely seems poised to be the most memorable tear in decades... for all of the wrong reasons!
