And Saturn, the other bright light there...

You also caught Venus' crescent phase in that photo, something you usually can't see with out a telescope or a photo.

Galileo using his crude telescope once exclaimed "I've seen the Horns of Venus"! That observation, along with his viewing of the moons orbiting Jupiter. led him to the realization that Copernicus' assertation the earth was not the center of the solar system was correct, and published so. That landed him in front of the Roman Inquisition and he was convicted of heresy, and sentenced to house arrest, which he served until his death.

That stigma lasted until Halloween,1992 when Pope John Paul II apologized for "The Galileo Case", the first of many Papal Apologies that have come after that day...
Ooopppps, just realized that the crescent in the photo wasn't Venus, but a camera artifact of the crescent moon, my bad. So Venus is the bright "start" and the dimmer one is Saturn. I saw similar artifact of the sun when I was taking pictures of the eclipse back in April.

Regardless, all the stuff regarding Galileo is correct, and with a telescope, you too can see "The Horns of Venus"...
