Whats going on in the World

Another "Much Ado About Nothing" headline to rile people for the wrong reason, when ANY business uses an outside service to hire staff, they get fleeced but good, and the actual worker doing the job, receives little more than the "normal" hourly rate.

Hospitals are a great example. When they can't/don't hire adequate staffing like nurses, PTs, OTs, etc., they resort to using a "service" to hire "travelers". The service charges ridiculous hourly fees.

One of the contracted companies, SLSCO, a Texas-based disaster firm, was found to be shelling out nearly $1,500 per eight-hour shift for a shelter supervisor at the start of its contract, while DocGo — a COVID testing-turned-migrant shelter firm — was paying site managers $2,000 per day, the report states.

I think the article was pretty clear....

I wonder how much migration Canada has been absorbing....

Yes, there are many businesses that hire outside staff, etc. But this is taxpayer money being wasted on a problem they created! They should have a fiduciary responsibility over taxpayer monies and their uses. That's what the article is really trying to discuss, although the point was not as easily understood.

Listen, I know you are grouchy. I have been doing everything in my power to get you some meaningful snow up there in Maine! :D

"Site Manager" isn't a worker bee, they're a managerial representative of the contracted company, who are making beaucoup coin. What I'm trying to say is that this isn't the migrants' fault, but a managerial fault by the city administration by not using city employees, just like hospital that doesn't staff adequately, using temp services.

I also wonder if

was really, SLSCO is CHARGING NYC nearly $1,500 per shift. I sincerely doubt that the contract actually shows individuals pay.

Yeah, if the migrants weren't there it wouldn't happen, but if NYC was more judicious in hiring/contracting, the problem wouldn't be as bad.

Yes, absolutely, but what got me going, sensational headlines that lead people who won't actually read something to the wrong conclusion.

NYC brought this on themselves and made it worse by not properly vetting/negotiating contracts, but a headline like that doesn't fire up the ire in the average Fox Media devotee's concept-challenged brain...

I read the article, somehow you had your own interpretation

And did the article mention anything about migration or immigrants' involvement with the rise in thefts???

My first reading was on the day it was published and I didn't remember seeing anything about migrants being the problem. But because you most have had some hard data for you claim I just reread the article to make sure I hadn't missed anything, and I hadn't. The word migrant doesn't even appear once. Do a Ctrl-F to check...

AAMOF, it's probably a home-grown problem since it's been around for a few years, prior to the recent events, and the government mentions Organized Crime as the source. Toronto's problem is new as it's been migrating west. The article says:

Quebec insurers often require the Tag system for high-risk cars in the province, which for decades has grappled with auto thefts largely because many thieves favor Montreal’s port for getting their hot wheels quickly out of the country.

Thanks in part to the well-known prevalence of tracking systems in Quebec, thieves have turned to Toronto for easier pickings.

Yeah sure, because the article doesn't mention it - there is no relationship.
And your, "If there's a crime spree anywhere in North America it must be illegal immigrants" logic is superior, especially pertaining to a chronic crime problem spanning over 6 years, which means it started when there was a different resident at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue...
