1996 Privateer Renegade I/O to Outboard Conversion

I went back and looked at the way you secured the tank, I wish the people that did mine had the technical expertise that you have, I didn't realise how bad of a job they did till it was too late, I had to make a new gas tank lid because the old one was shot, after opening it up and seeing what they did, I smacked myself for trusting them, If I can find pics I will post them, they, Oh crap, I don't even want to go there.
Looks like you won't have to worry about it for a long time, you still have access to change hose's if you have to, me I gotta remove the lid to do it.
I love the room that type of boat has, cab forward and plenty of room aft.
I look forward to seeing your progress, looking really good so far.

Hey, ground and all !!! good going. So many fill i have seen without a ground. Guess they have never seen some of those vids. of static electricity.

I wrongly assumed that the new Seastar Hydraulic steering helm would match up with the old teleflex helm that I removed. The existing hole is 3 1/4" , new helm needs 3". Nothing is ever easy.

Not sure what to do now. Fill and glass or just put a 3/4" ply backer plate. Probably going to grind, fill, glass and fair.......

I had the same problem when I replaced mine 6 yrs ago, the console to which the steering was mounted had a veneer cover that was peeling, I bought some 1/8 in. aluminum and replaced it, I bought a 6x6" 1/4 in. backing plate for the back, came out really nice and is 10 times stronger than what it was, accualy , I rebuilt the whole console because the previous owner butchered it with multiple holes, hmm, looks familiar.

There is only one way to do that properly.

And you know which it is. :p:)

Every time I take photo's on this project I think of you Don.

Well i must say you are doing a great job ,both of taking pics. and your rebuild. !!.

Bilge looks good But a little weird to me not seeing a shaft, stuffing box (or tube and dripless) Shaft wiper, rudder stock, steering pistons, high water alarm or lazerette pump, prop clean out and all but the kitchen sink stuck in there. :giggle:

IF, and that's a highly unlikely IF, I every buy an inboard craft, I must remember the "Old Mud Recommends" sagacious recommendation of a prop clean out port. (y) (y)(y)

BTW if any of you were betting excited to go to Hamilton Marine this weekend for their yearly Open House Sale has been postponed until a future date. Dang, need to stock up on Star Tron!!

I keep bouncing around on this project. I think my ADHD is getting worse as I get older. Also working on getting the trim tabs installed. Made a template to make sure the ladder wouldn't interfere with the tab.
