Coronavirus

and I am and will remain in the other group. Wonder which group will have more fatalities and lingering physical symptoms and brain fog ( ? ) Once I get vaccinated I really do not give a rat's ass with what the deniers do and how many croak. But so long as they can go to bars and keep their businesses open ( or provide them to their descendants in a will ) I guess they don't care either.
Just went to a doctor's office, a bank, Copaigue Home Depot and never saw a person without a mask. Going to finally use some old gift cards at Red Lobster (for takeout) later. Doubt I see any deniers there either.
I have been out and about and cannot ever remember seeing anyone WITHOUT a mask. Seems like even more people are getting out of their cars with masks on before they even get close to the store!

I’m proud every day

I really don’t give a fat rats azz about you or what u think

my point was
Long Island isn’t acting any differently than any where else

it’s all a game to busness
The whole charade

smoke and mirrors

live your damn life

Not really sure ever what your point is. Seems to be running all over in disarray. Hard to keep up. Kind of like a senseless rant. Been living my damn life since birth and having a tremendous time! Learned early in life from great parents to be respectful of others, and especially during times like we are seeing now!

It’s fairly simple
The economy matter
Children’s education matters

the science is deeply flawed and the mitigation efforts beyond flawed

govt over reach is more harmful than helpful

respecting others is great

putting on a show isnt

Remember, it is simple in your mind.

The economy is an issue, no doubt about that.

I think children's education for the younger children is in a bit of disarray and forces the parent to be more involved, on top of all the other stuff they must contend with. And they are missing that social interaction.

A little different with the older children. An interesting thing happened with my son. He is a high school senior. His loss will be on the social skills that are developed with the more normal interaction between peers and teachers. Some children may need to speak with someone later in life or college will be an issue. Remember, this age class will ALL be in the same boat. He is two days remote one week and three days the next. He has asked not for help with his homework, but for a discussion. Teachers have become in my opinion, more of a moderator like in college. I have been reading more of his writing and have been pleasantly surprised at the thought process put forth, rather than regurgitating what he heard to get something done. Bottom line, he is thinking!

Not sure science is flawed, guessing more toward evolving as data pours in. Like a battlefield maybe? Or a football game? Running game not working, put it to the air?

Who is putting on a show?

It’s not an issue
Our children’s futures and the economy are the over riding issues

shutting down the economy trampling ppls rights
On “ evolving scientific theories doesnt fly with many of us

As far as the kids and their education
They are far from in the same boat
Wife’s a grammar school teacher in a school in a poorer area
The kids are not doing well with this and neither are the teachers

I’ve got 3 very close friends that are teachers with their own young kids and the stories the same
Kids from upper income levels with parents that can afford to be home are doing ok
The rest not so much

they aren’t all going to come thru this ok

and I’m not ever going to have confidence in some kids college degree when I find out he did 2 years online with his classes open on one computer and his other computer googling the answers

Well, I must admit your contribution towards this conversation has taken a turn for the better, as you have made an extremely important observation. My two children are senior in high school and up. They have been "on their own" for quite awhile and my house has not had children that young for a bit. I guess I thought a bit micro rather than macro. I am upset at myself for that. This will be painful for this generation. But, based on the science, schools should be open as from what I have read it probably is the safest place for those children. I would think you should know this, but isn't some of the issue with closures based on the teacher's union not wanting teachers in the schools? Right, just recently in the city with the 3% threshold? That's a completely different topic.

You will always have those that cheat on exams, etc and obtain a degree. But future employers will be able to weed them out. I just look back at some of my classmates who had better grades than me and I always wondered how they did it. Now I know! Leave it at that.

A lot of it is the teachers union no doubt about it

yes agreed ppl do cheat but now it’s “ sanctioned cheating”
I’m not so sure about employers weeding them out so easily
In some instance yes

but if the weed to hard they will severely diminish the pool
Lots of high school kids are going to skate by into civil service and other jobs having completed 1.5 years of school on the i phone

as far as my contribution
Thanks
But it’s been the same all along
The kids and the economy 1st
The virus a distant second
And the cure can’t be allowed to be worse than the disease

I know I’m going to take heat for this and I’m in no way looking to get poked in my arm

but I think the vaccine distribution plan sucks as I’ve seen it
on a tottaly voluntary basis
older hospital workers and doctors and older teachers should be 1st
Followed by older essential workers that must work Fire pd and so on
then do the younger ones in those groups
Then the working population
Or something similsr

older retired folks and those with the abilty to shelter if they wish or must should be last
( and yes I gave older retired parents and relatives in nursing facilities )

but every effort should be made to get schools n the economy moving as fast as possible

I know I’m a cold hearted bastard for voicing what is probably a very unpopular opinion

to me it’s all about the economy and schools

Well let's start with the teachers union and get those children back into our schools!! Sorry to say, but it has "never been about the children". And still isn't. And in its current form it never will be. Otherwise they could have stepped up in a time of need. Like doctors, nurse, etc.

Certain fields will have a diminished "pool" of workers. Honestly, hope that for my daughter. It will increase her salary faster than her old father! :)

Someone here mentioned it, by the time my number is called, millions will be vaccinated so there will be more data regarding side effects etc.

I'm in a unique boat. I am a 48 years old divorced parent of a 7 year old, whom I have 50/50 custody with her mom. So my daughter is with me half time. She attends her 2nd grade onsite at school. She hates the masks and plexiglass dividers but gets thru it. Math was a challenge this fall for her after being locked down in the spring and forgetting the basics, but we have gotten that subject grades up this semester through making sure she studies with me at night. She got all 3's and 4's on her report card this week...math a little lower average 2.5'ish. So proud (3 is meets expectation and 4 is exceeds)

I was working in NYC for the past 10+ years at various management and technology consultancies. When the divorce was finalized and I retained custody of my daughter, it was brutal to commute 3 hours each day back and forth to NYC and still take care of my daughter. So I made a decision to leave that city work behind and start my own consulting business from the house, so I can take care of my daughter and try to make a living. Albeit, less than the full time NYC job, but I was ok with that because raising my daughter is more important.

For me, I have been one to fall thru the cracks completely: Covid hits and my income has nose dived faster than a giant squid getting hunted by a whale. I'm pretty much a sole proprietor, no employees, so no PPP funds...cant claim unemployment either.....so i grind it out every day and do the best i can trying to find additional clients and work. Still have the house and food on the table.

In terms of Covid Impact on people:
My older sister is a middle school teacher in South Carolina, she also teaches ESL. She told me the kids in her school have been going through mass anxiety and depression over lockdowns and there is a surge in kids needing special counseling.

On a personal note: and I am somewhat reluctant to share, but here it goes:
My brother little past away in May 2020. He was 33. He had a history of drug addiction, but was sober for the last 2 years, got a good job working construction on LI, was engaged and just moved in with his girl right before Covid hit in March 2020. He was always a nervous guy when it came to viruses and stuff. In fact, if he saw a pimple on his ass he used to think it might be cancer or something. LOL. Nervous Nellie for sure.

Anyway, he got laid of from his job in March, went thru depression, picked up the shit again (after 2 years sober) and died of an OD on May 25th. 2 months start to finish. Not covids fault, and his destiny for sure, but a catalyst.

My brothers fate is only one of many who have or are going through these terrible times.

So when we all talk about science and lockdowns and other shit, keep in mind everyone has a story and a perspective.

I will keep up "the good fight" for my daughter and my mom.

The municipalities are calling the shots on school open or closed not the Unions. though the unions are demanding safety pre-cautions naturally.

Grade schools are OPEN in NYC and my kid goes in every day to teach...where as middle schools and high schools are closed......so that is all about allowing people with small children to go to work and send the little ones to school (baby sitting) It's screwed up but sort of necessary

Don,

I did not know that about you. Thank you for sharing. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. If you would like, please PM me what you do, and maybe I can assist.

A little different as I speak with folks, but whatever you would like to believe.

nothing to do with what I believe...it's what's happening!! It is the mostly union people that have been working daily including me...and cops (my son in law caught covid at his precinct) firemen..... transit workers....grocery workers and so on. To question unions looking out for the safety of their workers while everyone else if home on zoom is ridiculous.

The head of the teachers union in nyc did not want (and it is documented) a total shutdown...he wanted a case by case school by school assessment. It was the genius diblasio who shut it down.....of course everyone here is not in the nyc system so this may not relate.

If the union was really doing the shutdown do you think they would allow the current grade schools OPEN and middle and high schools CLOSED decision? This is all about allowing parents to drop their young kids off so they can go to work and the kids get a meal or two......so they are stepping up in a time of need as have all the union workers cited above. Where I work we still have private businesses and offices where they have not shown up to this day and probably won't for another 6 months. I have shown up daily since this started and my union knows this IS needed and no bitching allowed.....and I agree.
