Peconic Porgy Slam-fest This Morning!

Hi Occh,
Yes, I do run Tog charters either full crew, up to 6 or splits. On the splits I work out a more reasonable per man fare. I will tell you that the prime dates around the 1/4 phase moon periods fill quickly so it's wise to book these trips early. I already have a few dates taken in October. Another tip is to try and be as flexible as possible on the days you can fish. Although, we have a lot of spots to hide in strong winds there are still a number of blow out days every fall. If you can keep the days before or after your chosen trip open it really increases your chances of getting out. Many times I may have a spot or two open on those surrounding days or even be wide open. Also, there are more openings on weekdays.
My boat is "The Captain's Table" located in Brick Cove Marina, Southold. Website is www.captainstablecharters.com
Hope to see you aboard this fall or sooner. We also run some killer Fluke trips to the south side of Montauk all summer.

Sinistre1,
I agree, you would have to be totally color blind to miss your boat!!:giggle: Perhaps I will see you out there this week.
Capt. Mike

It never fails.... I finally talked my brother into going this am. Go to sleep early, wake up at 3:30am. White-out fog conditiins! Smh. Forecast had those conditions in peconic bay through 10am. Not really conducive to fostering confidence in a small boat, in a new body of water. Fingers crossed for tomorrow

Yep, it got me too..:mad::mad:
It started coming in out here late afternoon yesterday on the south shore, east end....
Forecast showing it coming back tonight and tomorrow morning....
Really bumming that I missed the great weather window of last friday.. oh well

Beginning to feel like this idea is cursed. Lol. Maybe the Universe knows something I don't! Chinacat, I just scrolled back and noticed you mentioned fog. Didn't catch that last time. Might have considered that possibility.

Cleaned out the bait freezer of all last years leftover remnants. Half bags of spearing, clam scraps and loads of peanut bunkers. Broke out the blender and made poured into 5 qt size Gatorade piles and put in freezer for home made chum logs

First good window sunday thru Tuesday we going?

I hear ya. Curious, spearing and bunker make good porgy chum? I've only ever used clam
I grind it all up together to a thick chunky milk shake consistency. From my experience if the porgies are there anything works and prolly just the chum pot bouncing off the bottom stirring things up is just as Important too. Hell back in the day growing up in Moriches when we would go flounder fishing my old man would just bring a clam rake or pole just to stir the bottomWhen we were fishing in 6-10 ft of water??

I figure I got all the remnants in the freezer anyway so what the heck

Had everything lined up to take the day off today to make the run to peconic. As of yesterday the NWS peconic forecast was NW shifting to W 5-10. Heck that’s not bad. Got my son all psyched up for an early start. Got up and see trees moving and shaking pretty good. Check forecast again and now for home base in Shinnecock it says W to SW 10-15 gusts to 20. WTF. No way it’s gonna be calm in peconic while SW to 20 in Shinnecock. Having been burned by similar forecasts before I reluctantly pulled the plug. By lunch time it was downright breezy here so although I missed a day fishing with my boy I think the right call was made?

Yeah, I pretty much have given up on this idea... between Mother Natures neurotic behavior and Rome burning... I will just wait til things settle. If the porgies are still there I'll make the run. If not I'll settle for the smaller but just as eager ones that will eventually show in Jamaica Bay

It's tough to pull the plug but you obviously made the right call. It was honking there yesterday. It's all part of the game.

I’ve seen big Scup Come up to the surface in 30 feet of water to chase sand eels. Roll on the bait just like small bass.

Lmao. Agreed... would have loved to see that. Those shiny lil bastide never cease to amaze me. I tell you if they were 5lbs plus on the regular, I'm not sure I'd ever fish for anything else. Lol

SW still in tomorrows forecast but most models show 5-10
Hoping to get an early start, go thru the locks, get some porgies, get back thru locks into shinnecock by early afternoon...
Fingers crossed
