Coronavirus

Well, it is a very dark form of sarcasm or humor. But I admit every day I look at the governor's report as to how there are 200 or so less hospitalizations on a certain day, followed after a comma that 160 people died that same, certain day. One with an agenda could make something of that I guess as well.
Still waiting for new appointment availability so I can be disappointed all over again next week.

New York State expects to run out of its supply of coronavirus vaccines before the end of Friday, but more doses will begin to arrive in the coming days, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced at a news conference.

“We will — by the end of today fully — utilize all of the dosages that have been delivered,” Mr. Cuomo said Friday..

Not sure if this is still valid, but on the NBC national news this evening reported about an older couple on LI that couldn't get vaccines from the State sites, but were able to get an appointment at a local Walgreens.

I'd suggest you folks who really want a vaccine to go to the Walgreen's website and find out if you can schedule yourselves.

As the J&J and AstraZeneca vaccines seem to be approaching their introductions, let's review how they differ from the Pfizer & Moderna vaccines. All of the vaccines end up "fooling" a person's cells to make and release the COVID-19 "Spike Protein". Once this protein is released, the person's immune system recognizes this foreign body, activating a complete immune response, including the production of antibodies against the Spike Protein. The end result is that if a person gets infected by COVID-19, this "primed" immune response can immediately begin to attack the invading COVID-19 viruses.

So how do they do this, here are the steps.

Basic differences:
  • AstraZeneca (AZ) and Johnson & Johnson (J&J) have the Spike Protein synthesis instructions embedded in the attenuated adenovirus' native DNA
  • Pfizer (PF) and Moderna (MD) have the messenger RNA (mRNA) instruction for Spike Protein synthesis enclosed in lipid nanospheres, which bypasses multiple cellular steps as you'll see below
  • AZ, MD, and PF are two dose vaccinations, J&J is a single dose
  • The attenuated adenovirus AZ and J&J vaccines are far easier to scale up than the mRNA PF and MDD vaccines
  • The Lipid Nanosphere mRNA vaccines have stringent shipping and storage conditions, including dry ice shipment for PF

1. Cellular Entry Mode: Attenuated Adenovirus: AZ, J&J Lipid Nanospheres: PF, MD

2. Changes to Host Cell DNA: AZ, J&J N/A: PF, MD

3. mRNA synthesis: AZ, J&J N/A: PF, MD

4. Spike Protein Synthesis: AZ, J&J PF, MD

5. Spike Protein Release: AZ, J&J PF, MD

Time for a picture to jog your collective memory to remember how cells make proteins from mRNA. It occurs in your cellular ribosomes, those little black dots in the rough endoplasmic reticulum.

The mRNA can be considered an instruction tape which runs through the ribosome where transfer RNA (tRNA) which is bound to the appropriate amino acid, come together to assemble the polypeptide chain of the COVID-19 Spike Protein. The whole system can be considered to be a cellular nanobot assembly line. Once the protein is completed, it's then released from the cell, activating your immune system.

Great job on this. Much appreciated.

Walgreens site just implies they might be providing vaccines in the future. No place to sign up. then again Snoozeday and the MSM rarely get anything correct. Maybe they reside at assisted living or volunteer at LTCFs ? That seems to be Walgreens's only involvement, vaccinating residents and staff.

My bad, it was actually at CVS, but Walgreen is in the works. Here's the entire NBC broadcast last night, skip right to 10:38 and you'll be at the bit.

Well I don't like the sound of this...........

Public Health England, Imperial College London, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the University of Exeter have each been trying to assess how deadly the new variant is.
Their evidence has been assessed by scientists on the New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group (Nervtag).

The group concluded there was a "realistic possibility" that the virus had become more deadly, but this is far from certain.
Sir Patrick Vallance, the government's chief scientific adviser, described the data so far as "not yet strong".
He said: "I want to stress that there's a lot of uncertainty around these numbers and we need more work to get a precise handle on it, but it obviously is a concern that this has an increase in mortality as well as an increase in transmissibility."

Previous work suggests the new variant spreads between 30% and 70% faster than others, and there are hints it is about 30% more deadly.

Who Watches that Channel...

they waste 8 minutes of disastrous national weather every night... cellie...
Except for SWMBO watching the weekly "date rape of the week" on "Law&Order, SVU", I wouldn't know my allegedly smart TV gets that channel. Looked at CVS website, put in zip codes from Riverhead to Far Rockway as well as my own and got the message, "nothing in your area is available" each time.

Yes W, you were correct bout a year ago, can’t ignore the thought... cellie...

DIL saw Dentist, & got a call next day that the Dental Assistant called the office to say she wasn't feeling well, went for a test & tested positive DIL quarantined away from the family & didn't go to work Three or four days later DIL had symptoms, & tested positive, This was over two weeks ago, DIL is 45yrs & still not coming out of it, no smell or taste, & gets out of breath quick.
John
After three weeks DIL just starting to feel better, & now out Son & Grandaughter have mild symptoms & both have had a positive test. This whole thing really sucks.

Called a friend up in Head of the Harbor in Suffolk County to see how he was making out. He was the one diagnosed with COVID about two weeks ago - had had two bouts of lung cancer two years ago & is in his 70's. He sounded amazingly good for the experience.

Downside of the call - his wife was diagnosed with it two days ago.

Living like a semi-hermit helps. A couple of deer hunting sessions, one grocery store visit a week, a couple of visits a month for takeout and to various medicos (my usual preventive medicine in the late January to March timeframe each year), and maybe a HD or Lowes visit to start some honey-dos and that is it for me. Masked and washing hands after every stop. Won't start kayaking until May and its a solo.
